Taste of Donegal Food Festival

So with my lack of ability to eat any foods that are remotely divine I go and shove myself in the middle of a food festival. Yup that sounds pretty sane right?

Well last year I never got the chance to go to Taste of Donegal and after hearing all the fabulous reviews of all the incredible local food being showcased there I was determined to not miss out this year. I was not even going to let a little case of gestational diabetes stop me from at least sniffing the cakes and gourmet burgers.

Chocolate Almond Creams

Oh pregnancy why do you hate me so?

Last time round I spent half of my 2nd trimester and my entire 3rd trimester in and out of hospital due to Cholestasis of Pregnancy. Basically my liver decided it wasn't going to do its job and left me itching like a rabid dog with fleas day in day out.

And now second time round my pregnant body has decided Gestational Diabetes would be a bit of fun this time....

So cake, cookies, brownies, sweets. All the fun stuff you're supposed to be able to gorge on and not worry about are completely out for me.

Chocolate Cola Cake with Strawberry Buttercream

As a child I have many memories of my Ellie (my grandmother) taking me and my sisters to various plays and pantomimes, mainly around christmas time. I truly cherish these memories, even if now as my memory has faded and blurred a little I couldn't honestly tell you many specific shows we went to see at what time of year. I just have snippets of memories.

Such as sitting in a theatre while someone recited 'The Owl and The Pussycat' or feeling so insanely excited that we were about to go and see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang although I can't remember a single thing from the actual musical.

When I was 16 I started my hairdressing training (yeah, I am a qualified hairdresser and No I never plan on working as a hairdresser again), this training was the beginning of a 2 year slog to become qualified only to immediately be followed  by being laid off the exact day I qualified. Damn recession!!

But it turned out that being laid off was possibly the best thing that could ever happen to me, however that's another long story for another time.

Now the town I grew up in, in Essex, was a great town. Full of elizabethan style buildings and yummy mummy coffee shops. Really looking back it's a pretty cute little town, or at least it was the last time I was there.

Lemon and Olive Oil Muffins

It's July, It's officially the summer. It's officially already halfway through the year, Eeeek.

How fast has that gone?.

And summer has hit Donegal with a pretty decent heatwave. Which means the need for any clothes has become obsolete or according to my 3 year old. We visited a friend this afternoon and my little miss popped out into the garden for what seemed like only 5 minutes entirely fully clothed and she jauntily returned with just her pants on and demanding that I 'take of her knickers'. Naturally I said no but to no avail as she had already started a trend and all the girls started running around either naked or in just their pants.

Peanut Butter White Chocolate Chip Blondies

House decorating is becoming my number one hobby, behind baking of course.

We moved into our new house at the beginning of January and in April we decorated our little munchkins room 'Tinkerbell' style, including a 3ft long tinkerbell wall sticker. Yup, I know pretty damn awesome. Yet other than our 3 year olds room we hadn't really made a move anywhere else. We kind of got a bit lazy.

Cheese and Chive Scones

Oh my goodness guys, I'm not going to lie to you and I'm not going to hide my slightly inappropriate excite over something a friend pointed me in the direction of a couple of days ago.

With summer holidays rolling in fast and our solid plans to homeschool our little miss I've been trying to build a little catalogue of things to do and places to visit over the next couple of years when a friend of mine asked a seemingly innocent question 'Have you heard of geocaching?'
